Baltimore and Milwaukee Split

Game 1 - Milwaukee 6 Baltimore 3 - Both Jim Palmer of Baltimore and Lew Krausse of Milwaukee pitched well but left early in the game due to a 61 minute rain delay. After the rain delay the Brew crew's bullpen got the best of Baltimore. The Brewers scored 5 runs over the last 2 innings to take the victory.

Game 2 - Baltimore 4 Milwaukee 3 - Game 2 turned into a pitching duel between Baltimore's Dave McNally and Milwaukee's Marty Pattin. Pattin pitched 6.1 innings giving up 7 hits and 3 runs. McNally went the distance allowing only 3 runs and 9 hits while picking up his 13th victory of the season. The Brewers' downfall was their defensive play in the 9th inning. Pinch hitter Merv Rettenmund began the 9th for Baltimore by flying out to left. Don Buford then singled up the middle. Relief pitcher John Morris delivered a wild pitch that sent Buford to second. On the very next pitch Oriole center fielder Paul Blair hit a sharp grounder to 3rd. Brewer 3rd baseman, Tommy Harper, fired an low throw to first that wound up in the Oriole's dugout sending Buford home with the winning run.
