Manny Mota laces an opposite field double just inside the chalk on the right field line scoring Valentine and Alexander and putting runners on 2nd and 3rd (LA 2, PHI 1). Willie Davis singles to center to score Russell (LA 3, PHI 1). Mota does not challenge Montanez' arm, so runners are on 1st & 3rd. Richie Allen hits a bases clearing double off the wall in left barely missing a homer (LA 5, PHI 1). Parker grounds to short for out #2 and Garvey pops out to left to end the inning.

- LAD: Russell works the count full and walks again. Mota bunts him to second. Willie Davis singles to right (1st & 3rd). Richie Allen singles to left to score Russell. Davis goes from 1st to 3rd w/out a throw from Gamble. Bucky Brandon is summoned from the pen to replace the ineffective Reynolds and gets Parker to pop to short for the 2nd out. Garvey walks to load the bases and Joe Ferguson fans to end the inning (LA 6, PHI 1).

- LAD: Alexander singles on a 2-2 pitch with one out. Russell grounds to Bowa for an inning ending 6-4-3 DP.

- LAD: Mota leads off w/a clean single to up the middle. Willie Davis triples into the left center gap to score Mota (LA 7, PHI 1). Allen grounds weakly to Doyle at 2nd as Davis trots home (LA 8, PHI 1). Parker gets an opposite field single. Garvey pops to left and Ferguson grounds out to 3rd to end the inning.

- PHI: Philly begins to clear their bench. Browne and Lis pinch hit, but do not reach base.
- LAD: Bill Wilson comes on board in relief to start the 8th for Philly. Bobby V lines his 3rd pitch into right for a single. Alexander grounds weakly to 2nd to advance Valentine. Russell beats out a slow roller to 2nd to put runners at the corners. Mota hits a dribbler to 2nd Valentine scores on a fielder's choice (LA 9, PHI 1). Willie Davis fans to end the inning.

- PHI: Buckner is a defensive replacement for Mota in left. Philly continued to empty their bench. John Vukovich got a 2 out PH single. D.Johnson popped out to Garvey @ 3rd to end it.
