Nats blank A's again
8/28/71 - Oakland Coliseum - WAS 9, OAK 0
In the heat of this great AL West pennant race the A's needed Chuck Dobson (8-10, 3.74) to step up and deliver. Dobson delivered a stinker in his 7 innings of less than mediocre work. Mike Thompson (1-4, 4.38) was stellar for the Nats who now took the first 2 games of the series from the A's in their quest to play spoiler. The A's dropped out of first place as the Chisox broke their recent skid. Senator center fielder Del Unser was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Frank Howard, who is usually Washington's only offensive contributor was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and 3 RBI's. Oakland played it's second consecutive game without the ailing Jackson.
