Game 1 - Baltimore 7, Minnesota 4 - Baltimore scored 6 of its 7 runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. Mike Cuellar (15-8 2.79) got the win for the O's.
Game 2 - Baltimore 5, Minnesota 2 - This game marked brilliant pitching from Oriole starter Pat Dobson (13-7 2.63). Dobson went the distance giving up just 7 hits and 2 runs. Don Buford hit his 22nd homerun while Mark Belanger had 3 doubles to take game MVP honors.
Game 3 - Baltimore 4, Minnesota 3 (10 innings) - Both teams started their ace in this one. And Jim Palmer for the O's and Jim Kaat for the Twins did not disappoint. The Twins got out to an early lead due in part to Harmon Killebrew's 15th homerun of the season. After 3 innings, Minnesota was up 3 - 0. But Baltimore continued to battle back with single runs in the 4th, 6th and 7th to tie the game at 3. Neither team could put across any runs during the 8th and 9th sending the game into extra innings. Baltimore's Ellie Hendrick's pinch hit single drove in the O's lone run in the 10th. But the excitement wasn't over just yet. After a quick out in the Twins bottom half of the 10th, they proceeded to load the bases on Jim Palmer. But Palmer showed his grit by striking out George Mitterwald and getting pinch hitter Brant Alyea to ground out to preserve the victory. Jim Palmer (16-7 2.44) went the distance and was also awarded game MVP honors. --submitted by Lee Crouch--
