1971 Cubs at Phils

Fergie Jenkins evened his record at 3-3 beating Woodie Fryman who had relieved a tired Chris Short. Willie Montanez hit his fifth homer of the season. Cubs 2 Phillies 1

Bill Hands gave up six runs in the first two innings but saw the

Cubbies claw their way back to tie the game in the fourth. The rains came and the starters departed. Tompkins gave up two runs to Philly in the 7th with Montanez, who had homered earlier, driving in the winning run. Rick Wise hit his 3rd homer. Billiy Williams (6) and Don Kessinger (1) homered for the Cubs Phillies 8 Cubs 6

The last game was all Cubs. Ken Holtzman won his 2nd game of the season (2-6) throwing a complete game. Th Cubs bats echoed often and 16 Cubbies crossed the plate. Williams hit his seventh and Johnny Callison finally hit his first. Willie Montanez hit a homerun for the third consecutive day. Cubs 16 Phillies 2 --submitted by Tom Davis--
