Bosox take big Culp out of Brew Crew with 4-2 win.

GAME 1: Welcome to County Stadium for today's game between Boston and Milwaukee. Ray Culp will start for Boston. He's made 6 starts on the year and is 1 and 3 with an ERA of 3.83. He'll be opposed by Marty Pattin. He's made 6 starts on the year and is 4 and 1 with an ERA of 4.23. It's 69 degrees, wind speed 20 mph, in from rf and we have a chance for rain.

The opener was scoreless until Ted Kubiak hit his 3rd homer of the season off of Ray Culp with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th. In the top of the 5th Mike Fiore walked and Duane Josephson, who has been clutch so far this season, doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and Doug Griffin coming to the plate. Griff grounded weakly to his opposite number, Kubiak, for a fielder's choice and a game tying RBI. Pitcher Ray Culp went down swinging on 3 pitches to end the Red Sox threat. Billy C led off the 7th with a walk and was bunted over to second by Fiore. Josephson again came through with a clutch single to put runners on the corners with 1 out. Griff hit a sac fly to center to put the Sox ahead 2-1, and again Culp fanned to end the rally.

With 1 out in the home half of the 7th Rich Auerbach doubled to right center and moved to third on Brewer starter, Marty Pattin's, sac bunt. Tommy Harper hit a clean single to right center to knot the game up again at 2. Mike Hegan followed up Harper by weakly flying to Reggie Smith in right to end the inning. Aparicio singled to lead off the 8th. Reggie Smith battled Pattin by fouling off a ton of pitches and finally walking when the count reached 3-2. Yaz flew weakly to right and Petrocelli walked to load the bases for Bill C, who fanned on 3 pitchers. Mike Fiore got caught looking for the final out as Boston blew a golden opportunity by stranding 3.

Josephson again was able to reach base with a clean single. Griffin attempted to bunt him over, but wound up walking instead. Culp came up in an obvious bunting situation and layed down a perfect sacrifice to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Little Luis Aparicio came through with a clean single to right to plate both runners. On the ensuing throw to the plate he snuck in and took 2nd. Reggie Smith was given an intentional pass to create the force. Yaz popped out and Petrocelli ended the inning w/a fielder's choice.

Culp made short work of the Brew Crew in the home 9th to win the game 4-2 and move his record to 2-3 with a 3.54 ERA. The loss dropped Pattin to 4-2.
