Down(ing) and out...

Montreal 10, LA 6 (Jary Parc)
Al Downing
is supposed to be the ace of the Dodger pitching staff...instead he's been nothing more than a joker. In 1971 Downing was 20-9. At this point in the season he's 4-6 with a 4.00 ERA. Staked to a 4-1 lead Downing allowed the Expos to post a 6-spot in the 4th and 2 in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Sandy Vance did a great job with 4 innings of relief with only 1 run allowed. Maury Will banged out 4 hits in a losing cause. Ron Fairly hit his 5th homer of the season for the Expos as he went 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's. In fact the bottom of the Expos lineup went 9 for 12 with 5 RBI's. Way to go Al !
