1971 Detroit at Washington

Tigers take two of three from Washington

Game 1 Fred Scherman blew his first save of the season as the Senators rallied for three in the 8th to win 4-3. Riddleberger (2-4) got the win, Mike Kilkenney (0-2) took the loss. Aurelio Rodriguez (7), Al Kaline (3) and Frank "Hondo" Howard (10) hit homers

Game 2 Mickey Lolich had to go ten innings to earn his 6th wn (6-4) as the Tigers

took the game 4-3 in 11 innings.. Fred Scherman got his fifth save. Both teams scored in the tenth but only the Tigers managed a run in the 11th. Pina took the loss (1-1)

Game 3 The Tigers jumped on Casey Cox (0-7) for 5 runs in the second, with Mickey Stanley's 3 run double being the big blow. That was all Joe Coleman (4-1) needed as he threw 7 strong innings and one weak inning to get the win, 7-3
