Giants sweep Dodgers

Game 1: LA 1 SF 2. The Giants took advantage of an error by Dick Allen to score their first run in the third, followed by a Willie Mays RBI single. Steve Stone, who had been off to a rough start, pitched five scoreless innings before being lifted for a pinch hitter. John Cumberland came in and allowed only one unearned run and held on to give the Giants a 2-1 win.

Game 2: LA 3 SF 5. Juan Marichal had a rough start, giving up an unearned run

on his own error in the first and two more in the fourth on a two-run shot from Jim Lefebvre. But the Giant bats exploded in the sixth, opening with a leadoff homer by Bobby Bonds and cliamxed with a two-run double by Bill Dietz. Marchial hung on the rest of the way to secure the complete game win.

Game 3: LA 5 SF 6. Gaylord Perry did not have his A stuff in this game -- or perhaps he'd run out of Vaseline. He was surprisingly hittable in the first inning, giving up three runs. He hung on by the skin of his teeth, giving up two more runs in the 6th on a two-run single by Bill Buckner. But the Giants began to come back, with solo home runs from McCovery and Dietz in the sixth and an RBI double by Bobby Bonds in the sevents, followed by an RBI single from Willie Mays. A walkoff single by Dick Dietz with the bases loaded completed the sweep.
