Catfish Hunter (6-7) picks up the win behind the 2 home run performance of Mike Epstein. With the score 4-2, Darold Knowles came in and struck out Roy White as the tying run in the 7th. Oakland then scored 3 in the 8th to put it away. Dave Duncan goes 4-4 with a double and triple. Steve Kline (7-4) took the loss
Game 2 New York 4 Oakland 1
Mel Stottlemyre (9-3) goes all the way giving up only 1 unearned run. Danny Walton in his first game of the season hits 2 home runs. Vida Blue (9-4) took the loss.
Game 3 Oakland 5 New York 2
Reggie Jackson and Sal Bando hit back to back 2 run homers to give the A's a quick 4-0 lead in the 1st. Blue Moon Odom (2-1) goes 7.2 innings for the win. Odom almost got into big trouble in the 7th. With the bases loaded, he walked back to back batters to make the score 5-2. Darold Knowles then came in and induced Danny Carter to hit into an inning ending double play.
