Tuseday August 10. Eddie Brinkman led off the third with a triple and was squeezed home by Joe Coleman. Tommy Harper doubled home a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. The Brewers added a run in the fifth when Bill Parsons (5-15) singled home Ellie Rodriguez. The Tigers tied it up in the 7th on a Bill Freehan single. However, in the bottom of the frame, the Brewers picked up three on singles by Rodriguez, Bob Heise, Harper and Ron Theobold. The Tigers came right back in the 8th. A walk to Brinkan, a triple by pinchhitter Gates Brown, a walk to Dick McAuliffe. Al Kaline singled home one run but McAuliffe was thrown out at third. Jim Northrup walked, then Willie Horton tied the game with a single. Aurelio Rodriguez led off the nith with a double and scored on pinchhitter Mickey Stanley's double. Wednesday, August 11 The Tiger score in the first when McAuliffe came home on a passed ball. The Brewers tied it in the bottom of the first on a Dave May single. Milwaukee added two in the second and got a fourth run in the third when May took Joe Niekro (5-4) deep for his 12th homerun. Skip Lockwood got the win (6-11) and Floyd weaver got his second save. Brewers 5 Tigers 2.
Thursday, August 12. Each team's leading winner would be going in the rubber match of the series. The difference being that Marty Pattin had 11 wins while Mickey Lolich was leading the majors with 23. Lolich was coming off a complete game shutout against the Red Sox and he found the Brewers no more difficult. All the scoring took place in the 6th when Northrup hit a two out two run double and Freehan singled him hom. The Brewers managed only four baserunners all day, with only one man reaching second, on errors by Brinkman and Freehan. Lolich did not walk any for the second game in a row. He has given up one walk and one run in his last 27 innings. Lolich went to 24-7, Pattin to 11-12. Tigers 3 Brewers 0
