On Sunday, August 8th 13,921 watched
Denny McLain blank the Indians 2-0. McLain's resurgence was not the main attraction of the day. On this day the soon to be lame duck Senators ran their 1st annual "Hot Pants Day Promotion"
[Washington Post - Bob Addie, Columnist]
Not all of our citizens share the Senators' enthusiasm for Hot Pants Day at the stadium. Among the sample telephone calls, and letters to this desk protesting bad taste is this on from a man who insists he isn't a prude: "I think of the vulnerable youngsters who will be out at the game on Sunday. It seems to me just another way to make a cheap buck ."
Tasteless or not, the advertising gimmick was successful, attracting the largest crowd of the homestand. It was the second largest crowd during the entire second half of the season.
