Going to a Go-Go

8/27/71 - Oakland Coliseum - WAS 3, OAK 0
Bill Gogolewski (3-7, 2.78) tossed an immaculate 3 hitter as he went the distance and shutout the Reggie Jackson-less A's 3-0. The Nats posted two in the first when Frank "Hondo" Howard hit a mammoth shot to deep left to score Del Unser and himself and put Washington up 2-0. That would be all the runs that Gogo would need. Blue Moon Odom went 7 innings for the Athletics and gave up only 2. Washington's 3rd run was charged to Rollie Fingers who surrendered a 9th inning homer to Bernie Allen to finish the scoring.
