GAME 1 - WAS 6, KC 1
Could the Senators dormant offense really be coming to life after scoring 6 runs off of KC starter Al Fitzmorris ? The Capital Punisher, Frank Howard hit his 20th of the season. Dick Bosman (4-17, 4.87) went the distance and allowed only 1 unearned run in the top of the 9th.
GAME 2 - KC 3, WAS 0
The senators offense reverted back to it's season long malaise as Mike Hedlund tossed a 3 hit shutout vs the Sens. Ed Kirkpatrick hit his 11th for KC in the 5th to put the game away vs the anemic Nats.
GAME 3 - KC 3, WAS 0
Different day, same result. This time Paul Splittorff tosses a 3 hit shutout. Gogoloweski gives up a homer to the diminutive one, Fred Patek, who also stole his 38th base of the season.
GAME 4 - KC 7, WAS 2
This one was close until KC busted out with 5 runs in the 7th off of reliever Denny Riddleberger (4-11, 6.33). Washington's lack of offense could not overcome a 5 run deficit as the Nats dropped their 3rd straight.
GAME 5 - KC 3, WAS 2
Pete Broberg was wild early on and yielded 3 runs to the Royals. The Sens actually tied it at 2, but a solo shot by Amos Otis in the 3rd was all that the Royals would need to win. All of KC's runs came via the long ball off of Broberg. Gail Hopkins, Keough and Otis all hit solo shots. Paul Casanova went 2-3 for the Sens to boost his average to .190.
