
July 6 Jim Hickman (13) and Ernie Banks (3) homered in the 5th. Jim Lefebrve (8) hit one of his own in the bottom half of the inning. Hickman hit a two run homer in the 6th (14). In the 9th, Willie Crawford led off with a single. Willie Davis was safe on a Don Kessinger error. Dick Allen singled and Wes Parker drove home one run with yet another single. At that point, Cub starter Ferguson Jenkins decided to hell with pitching to contact and proceeded to strike out Duke Sims, Lefebrvre and Bill Buckner with the bases loaded to preserve his win (12-5). July 7 (1st game) The Dodgers jumped all over Milt Pappas (6-9) for 8 runs in the first three innings. But the Cubs wouldnt go away and scored 4 runs in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th.. The Dodgers added 3 more in the 7th but the Cubs kept pecking away with single runs in the 8th and 9th, leaving the tying and winning runs on base when Brock Davis struck out to end the game. Maury Wills and Willie Crawford each had three hits for the Dodgers while Wills drove home 4 runs. Kessenger went 5 for 5 for the Cubs. July 7 (second game) The Cubs pitching staff got more of the same in the second game of the twin bill. Juan Pizarro (0-1) gave up 8 runs in less than 5 innings. Willie Davis (7) and Lefebvre (9) hit homers and Doyle Alexander cruised to his first win of the season (1-3) Dodgers 10 Cubs 3.

July 8. This time it was the Dodger pitching staff that got hammered. Joe Moeller (2-2) gave up 8 runs including homers by Glenn Beckert (3) and Kessenger (3). Ken Holtzman chipped in two hits and two ribbies and, remarkably, threw a complete game shutout (7-11). Cubs 8 Dodgers 0 --submitted by Tom "Crash" Davis--
