1971 Detroit at Oakland

Thursday July 19.  Oakland scored first in the bottom of the second when Dick Green singled home Tommy Davis.  From then on, Chuck Dobson and Mickey Lolich shut down the opposition hitters.  The Tigers broke through in the 8th.  With one out, Al Kaline singled and Jim Northrup followed with a homer (15).  And that was all she wrote.  Lolich was the winner (19-6) and Dobson the loser (7-5)  Tigers 2 As 1

 

Friday July 20  Les Cain (2-2) gave up three runs in the bottom of the first, two on a double by Sal Bando and a third on a single by George Hendricks.  Vida Blue (14-5) didnt need any further help.  As 4 Tigers 0

 

Saturday July 21.  Dave Duncan struck first with his ninth homer of the season.  The As added a run in the fifth on a Green sacrifice fly.  Jim Hunter kept theTigers at bay until the 8th when Ike Brown hit a pinchit homer (7).  That was followed by a Kaline pinch hit double.  With two out Kaline was driven home by Northrup.  Th game went into extra innings.  In the bottom of the 10th, Green lead off with a double.  Rollie Fingers then singled him home and the game was over.  Fred Scherman took the loss (5-3).  Fingers got the win (2-7).  As 3 Tigers 2
