O---boy ! Orioles Sweep punchless Bombers

Game 1 Baltimore 3 New York 1
Pat Dobson and Mel Stottlemyre pitched good games, but Baltimore prevailed in the end. Baltimore got on the board first when Paul Blair reached on a 2 base error by Jerry Kenney and a Frank Robinson single. Boog Powell hit a 2 run homer in the 6th to make it 3-0. The Yankees then added a run in the 8th, but Thurman Munson struck out with runners on 1st and 3rd. Pat Dobson (6-3) goes all the way for the win giving up 6 hits and 1 run. Mel Stottlemyre (9-4) went 6 innings giving up 3 hits and 3 runs, 2 of which were earned.

Game 2 Baltimore 8 New York 1
Baltimore got a lot of key hits, as 7 of their 8 runs were scored with 2 outs. After the Yankees took a
1-0 lead, in the Orioles half of the 4th, with 2 outs, the Orioles strung together 4 consecutive hits to
take a 2-1 lead. In the 6th, the Orioles struck again when the had a runner on first with 2 outs, Jerry Kenney commits an error then singles by Andy Etchebarren and Mike Cuellar added 3 runs and made the score 5-1. Merv Rettenmund hit his 5 homer of the season in the 7th and the Orioles added 2 more 2 out runs in the 8th. Mike Cullar (10-3) goes all the way for the win. Fritz Peterson (7-6) took the loss.

Game 3 Baltimore 8 New York 1
Baltimore jumped all over starter Mike Kekich in the 3rd scoring 5 times, again with 2 outs and a runner on first, Kekich walked the next 4 batters, followed by singles by Davy Johnson and Andy Etchebarren. Later Don Buford hit his 13th home run of
the season. John Ellis hit a home run for the Yankees to break up the shutout. Jim Palmer (8-5) pitched the complete game for the win, giving up 5 hits and 1 run. Mike Kekich (1-5) took the loss.

Game 4 Baltimore 2 New York 0
Baltimore completed the 4 game sweep in a great pitchers duel. Steve Kline and
Dave McNally pitched scoreless inning after scoreless inning. McNally tired in the 8th with 1 out and was replaced by Eddie Watt. Finally, in the bottom of the 10th, Ellie Hendricks hit a game winning 2 run home run, his 6th of the season. Eddie Watt (3-2) got the win. Steve Kline (8-5) went all the way for the loss, giving up only 4 hits and the 2 runs off the home run. Dave McNally went 8 1/3 and gave up 6 hits for the no decision.
Baltimore out scores the Yankees 21-3 dominating the series.
