Game 1 Kansas City 7 New York 3
Mike Hedlund (5-3) holds down the Yankees to win the first game. He goes 6 innings giving up 1 run. The Royals took a 4-0 lead in the second, off loser Mike Kekich (1-4), with the help of a passed ball and 2 errors. The Yankees cut it to 4-3 in the 7th, but with the bases loded and only 1 out and the Yankees 2 best hitters coming up, but Tom Burgmeier gets Bobby Murcer to line out to second and Roy White to fly out. The Royals then scored 3 in their half of the 7th to put the game away. Danny Carter had 3 hits for the Yankees.
Game 2 New York 2 Kansas City 1
Bobby Murcer hits is 16th Homer of the season in the 2nd and that is all the runs the Yankees needed in their 2-1 win. The Yankees had trouble getting the big hits as they had the bases loaded with only 1 out twice and got no runs out of it. They also hit into 3 double plays to kill rallies. Steve Kline (8-4) goes all the way for the victory giving up 10 hits, but didn't walk anybody. Ken Wright (4-5) got the loss, but gave up 6 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Game 3 Kansas City 9 New York 4
Kansas City wins the rubber game as Bruce Dal Canton (2-8) pitches a good game, giving up 4 hits and 1 unearned run in 6 1/3 innings. Ed Kirkpatrick hits a 2 run homer in the 1st, his 6th of the season. Amos Otis hit a 3 run homer, his 10th, to give the Royals a huge 9-1 lead. Otis went 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 4 rbi's. Bobby Murcer added his 17th homerun, a 2 run shot in the 8th.
