[GAME 1 - Dodger Stadium - HOU 5, LA 4]

Even a game tying 3 run homer by the great Willie Davis could not save the Dodgers from another defeat. LA has been on some slide lately and even their savior (Davis) could not get them a win. Future HOF'er Joe Morgan had a 2 run blast off of Dodger starter Claude Osteen, who left the game in the 8th with the score tied. Reliever Pete Mikkelsen yielded runs to the Astros in both the 8th and 9th innings to ensure defeat. LA made it interesting in the 9th, but Don Wilson, who went the distance for the 'stros closed it out. Dennis Menke had a 3 for 4 day for the victors.
[GAME 2 - Dodger Stadium - LA 3, HOU 2]
Don Sutton and Jack Billingham had a nice 8 inning duel in the sun. When all was said and done it

came down to the pen and LA's Jim Brewer (4-3) was much better than Houston's Jim Culver (2-5). Sutton had a shutout and was nursing a 2-0 lead into the 8th when Bob Watson doubled home Joe Morgan and Dennis Menke single in Watson to tie it. LA won it in the 9th in walk off fashion when Dick Allen led off with a
single and Wes Parker doubled him over to third. After Jim Lefebvre lined out to Morgan at second Tom Haller plated the winning run with a rip to right center field.
[GAME 3 - Dodger Stadium - LA 4, HOU 1]

With runs now coming at a premium the fans in Chavez Ravine were ecstatic to see the Dodgers score 4, especially of Houston's ace Larry Dierker. LA opened the scoring with 2 in the 2nd. Back to back doubles by Allen and Wes Parker, followed by an error by Houston shortstop Roger Metzger accounted for the scoring. LA scored 2 more in the 5th as Dierker lost control and uncorked a wild pitch and Maury Wills hit a bloop single. LA's Al Downing (5-7) finally looked like the ace and was tossing shutout ball until the 9th when Houston made it very interesting. With 2 outs Jack Hiatt tripled, then scored on a Doug Rader single. Pinch Hitter John Mayberry singled and Schlueter came up as the tying run. Downing summoned up whatever strength he had left to strike Schuleter out for the complete game victory.
