1971 Detroit at Cleveland

Thursday June 17. When Les Cain (2-1) left the mound after finishing the fifth inniing, he was tied with Cleveland, 3-3. But the Tigers scored three off reliever Ed farmer (0-1) in the sixth to make Cain the winner. Tom Timmerman recorded the save (1). Ray Foster (9) homered for the Indians Tigers 6 Indians 3

Friday June 18. Homers by Dick McAuliffe (6), Aurelio Rodriguez (10) and Willie

Horton (11) powered Joe Coleman (8-2) to his eighth win. The Indians acted up in the bottom of the 8th with a pair of two run homers by Graig Nettles (18) and Roy Fosse (6) but it wasnt enough. Fred Scherman got the save (9) Tigers 12 Indans 7

Saturday June 19. Norm Cash opened the scoring with a two run homer (19) in th third. Cash hit his 20th homer in the 5th. Both were off starter Alan Foster (2-7). Tiger starter Dean Chance ran out of gas in

the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases and then surrendering a bases loaded walk. Mike Kilkenney (1-2) entered the game and threw a wild pitch to score a second Indian run. Kilkenny then struck out Chris Chambliss and Frank Baker. The Tigers added four more in the 7th. Joe Niekro got the save (2). Tigers 7 Indians 4

Sunday June 20 (Game One) Cash's third inning three run homer (21) was all the support Mickey Lolich needed (14-5). Steve Dunning (2-5) took the loss. Detroit 5 Indians 1

Sunday June 20 (Game Two) The Tigers started their quest for a sweep on a good note with Al

Kaline (6) and Cash (22) hitting back to back homers in the first. But that was all the offense the Tigers could muster as a succession of Indian relievers held them in check. Chuck Hinton's (1) two run homer off Joe Niekro (2-2) capped a three run 5th inning and supplied the margin of victory. Ray Lamb (4-5) was the winner. Phil Hennigan (5) got the save.
