
Sunday July 18. Rbi singles by Chris Cannizzaro and Milt Pappas in the bottom of the second gave the Cubbies a two run lead. Joe Pepitone added to the lead with a Grand Slam (6) in the 6th. Jim Fairey got two back with his fist homer of the season in the 7th, but the Expos would not score again. Don Kessinges two trun teiple in the 8th iced the game. Pappas was the winner (7-10), Dan McGinn lost for the fourth time with no wins. Cubs 9 Expos 2

Monday July 19. The Cubs led off the scoring with a Billy Williams single and Pepitone sacrifice fly in the first. Rusty Staub, Le grand Orange, singled home a run in th fifth to cut the gap to 2-1. That would be as close as the 'Spos got thogh as the Cubs then pounded a succession of Montreal pitchers. 4 runs in the 5th were followed by four more in the 6th and two each in the 7th and 8th. Pepitone tripled twice and drove in three runs and scored three. Williams drove in four, including his 18th homer. Ron Santo drove in four, while Don Kessenger and Glenn Beckert eash scored four times. Ken Holtzman was the beneficiary of this largess, notching his 8th win against 11 losses. Phil Regan picked up his 5th save with 3.2 innings of work. John Strohmayer took the loss (2-6) Cubs 14, Expos 5
