
Tuesday June 22 (Game 1). Les Cain tossed seven shutout innings, but lost a bid for he win when Fred Scherman surrendered a lead off homer to Bob Walton (3) in the 8th inning. Mel Stottlemyre allowed only one run through the eleven innings he pitched, but his teammates could not provide any additional runs. Dalton Jones doubled home the game winner pinch hitting in the 13th. Joe Niekro (3-2) got the win, Bill Denehy (2). Jjack Aker (0-3) took the loss. Tigers 2 Yankees 1
Tuesday June 22 (Game 2) Dick McAuliffe (7) hit a three run homer in the fifth and Willie Horton

(12) a solo shot in the sixth to provide Joe Coleman (9-2) with enough runs to get the win. Bobby Murcer (18) and Jake Gibbs (1) homered in a losing effort. Stan Bahnsen (6-4) took the loss. Tigers 7 Yankees 3

Wednesday June 23. Starters Mike Kilkenny and Fritz Peterson each allowed one run in the 8 innings they pitched. Bobby Murcer was the Yankee hero doubling home the game winner in the bottom of the 10th with two outs, making Jack Aker (1-2) a winner for the first time this season. Bill Denehy (1-2) took the loss. Yankees 2 Tigers 1
