Tigers and Yankees in offensive shootouts

Game 1 Detroit 7 New York 3
Mickey Lolich (17-6) goes all the way striking out 10 and Norm Cash hits 3 homers in beating the Yankees. Cash (26) and Dick McAuliffe (12) both hit 2 run homers in the first off Yankees starter Stan Bahnsen (8-5) to give Detroit a 4-0 lead in in first. The Yankees answered with 2 in the second on a Roy White (9) home run and a Gene Michael single, but that's as close as the Yankees got as Cahs hit 2 more homers and Dalton Jones (5) added another homer.

Game 2 New York 12 Detroit 10
It was a real hitting fest in the second game. Detroit took a 3-0 lead in the 3rd on an Al Kaline (11) 2 run homer followed by a Willie Horton (14) home run off Yankees starter Fritz Peterson. The Yankees scored 1 in the 4th and scored 5 more in the 5th on a walk and 5 consective singles off Detroit starter Mike Kilkenny. Dertoit answered in their half of the 5th on a Dave Cash 3 run home run as Detroit tied the score 6-6. Both teams exchanged runs in the 6th, Detroit's coming on an Ike Brown(6) Pinch hit home run. The Yankees scored a run in the 7th on a Ron Swoboda double, answered in the bottom of the 7th on a 2 run Bill Freehan (13) Home run to give Detroit 9-8 lead. The Yankees tie it in the 8th on a sac fly to re-tie it again. Detroit scored in the 8th to retake the lead 10-9 on an Al Kaline single. Bill Denehy
came in to pitch the 9th to close out the game, but the Yankees would not die. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs, Detroit elects to walk Bobby Murcer to face Roy White and White responds with a bases clearing double to give the Yankees and amazing 12-10 win. For the 3rd time this season, Roy White hits a game winning hit after an IBB to Bobby Murcer.

Game 3 New York 11 Detroit 8
Detroit and New York come back with another barn burner. The Yankees jumped on Detroit starter Bill Gilbreth. Felipe Alou hit a 3 run home run in the 1st to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead. The Yankees add 1 in the 2nd and 2 more in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Yankees starter Steve Kline (12-5) ran into trouble in the 5th. Bill Frehan (14) opened the 5th with a home run. Dalton Jones then hits a 3-run home run to cut the lead to 6-4. Norm Cash hits a triple and is knocked in on a Willie Horton single to make it 6-5. A walk to Jim Northrup then Bill Freehan hits his 2nd home run of the inning, a 3-run shot, to give Detroit a 8-6 lead. The Yankees tie it in 6th on Ron Swoboda's 2 run single, then take a 9-8 lead on Gene "stick" Michael's single. The Yankees then added 2 insurance runs in the 9th.
